  • Task

The Tsaryovo landfill near Moscow contains a large volume of waste concentrated within a relatively small area, resulting in a high waste mound with steep slopes. Therefore, one of the main tasks was to regrade the site by constructing a complex structure—a reinforced-soil retaining wall.

    Solution

Construction of a reinforced soil retaining wall using the «ТЕХПОЛИМЕР» technology and geosynthetic materials manufactured in-house. The structure is built around the perimeter of the landfill in three stages: base preparation, wall construction and facing.

The base is prepared using crushed stone reinforced with a flat RD Geogrid.

The load-bearing structure of the reinforced soil retaining wall consists of sand-and-gravel mix wrapped in facing elements and compacted in layers. The facing elements are made of reinforced woven «Стабигрунт» fabric

A special mesh system is used as the retaining wall facing. It is filled with soil and covered with «Биомат» vegetative fabric, allowing perennial grasses to grow soon after installation.

Reinforced soil systems are less sensitive to uneven settlement of the base, temperature and shrinkage stresses, as well as various types of dynamic loads.

    Technology Advantages
    • High strength of the reinforcing material and the structure as a whole
    • Resistance to differential settlement of the foundation
    • Cost-effectiveness and ease of construction compared with traditional solutions
