Energy Complex

The use of geosynthetic materials in the energy sector is driven by their high technical and operational performance, durability, and economic benefits. Geosynthetics enable energy facilities to be constructed in a manner that is safe for ecosystems, the environment, and people.

Standard Solutions

Construction of CHP ash and slag disposal facilities

Environmentally safe storage and disposal of CHP ash and slag is only possible at specially equipped sites—ash and slag disposal facilities (ASDFs). We develop and successfully apply designs for impermeable barriers and drainage systems that ensure the stability of ash and slag disposal facilities and prevent environmental pollution.

Depending on the hydrological and geological conditions, as well as the condition of the foundation, impermeable barriers in the base and on the upstream slopes of ASDF dams are constructed using waterproofing geomembranes, bentonite mats as a duplicate waterproofing layer, drainage composite mats for effective water removal, geosheet piles for constructing a cutoff wall, and reinforcing geogrids.

Construction of overhead power lines and electrical substations

The installation of new overhead power lines often takes place in challenging geological conditions, on marshy terrain, during thaw periods, or on unprepared surfaces. In this regard, our specialists help address several tasks at once:

  • Organisation of temporary roads and work areas
  • Prevention of erosion of the overhead line support foundation
  • Reinforcement of the embankment for electrical substation structures

Mobile road surfaces “ТЕХПОЛИМЕР” are suitable for organising temporary access routes and work areas for heavy machinery. Their low weight simplifies transportation and installation. They have positive buoyancy and a textured surface, which prevents machinery from slipping on the plates. In addition, their multiple reuse enables our customers to reduce construction costs for new facilities.

When constructing new overhead power lines on waterlogged soils, there is a risk of erosion of the concrete foundation of the support.  To prevent this, “ТЕХПОЛИМЕР” geosheet piles can be used as an impermeable cutoff: the geosheet piles are driven into the soil around the support perimeter, thereby cutting off groundwater.

When constructing an embankment for an electrical substation, the position of the groundwater relative to the surface must be taken into account. If the groundwater is close to the surface, embankment erosion and subsequent damage to the substation foundation become major concerns. To prevent these processes, “ТЕХПОЛИМЕР” specialists offer technical solutions for installing a drainage system using the three-dimensional polymer mesh “Гидромат 3D” and biaxial SD Geogrid with rigid junctions.

The use of “ТЕХПОЛИМЕР” geosynthetic materials makes it possible to:

  • Ensure uniformity and reduce the settlement of embankment soils;
  • Prevent embankment failure caused by foundation erosion;
  • Increase operational reliability, service life, and intervals between repairs.

Construction of nuclear power plants

The construction of nuclear power plants and their infrastructure requires the most reliable technical solutions and safe materials. “ТЕХПОЛИМЕР” has such solutions and materials, as well as extensive experience in their application:

  • Waterproofing of protective dam slopes at cooling ponds using Geomembrane.
  • Waterproofing, formation, and reconstruction of the site base during the construction of firewater reservoirs using materials such as Geomembrane, Гидромат 3D, Geosheet Pile, RD Geogrid, Geotextile, and three-dimensional geogrid.
  • Construction of new storage reservoirs and rehabilitation of existing ones using V-LOCK anchor sheet for reliable lining of precast and cast-in-place reinforced concrete and metal structures.
  • Construction of access roads using reinforcing, drainage, and waterproofing materials, as well as temporary roads and work areas using reusable mobile road surfaces.
  • To reinforce slopes and embankments, we use structural solutions incorporating reinforcing geogrids and sheet pile structures, and construct retaining walls.

Advantages of using geosynthetics in the industry:

  • Geosynthetic materials made from virgin polyethylene have high resistance to decay, corrosion, and chemical exposure, making them particularly suitable for facilities where safety is a mandatory construction requirement.
  • Geosynthetics withstand temperature fluctuations and are resistant to ultraviolet radiation, so they can be used even in challenging climatic conditions.
  • Construction times are significantly reduced through the implementation of innovative technical solutions.
  • The service life of structures is extended because all geosynthetic materials have a service life of at least 50 years.
