Mine and Tunnel Construction

Mine and Tunnel Construction

Geosynthetic materials are used in the construction of mines and tunnels to waterproof concrete structures, ensuring the reliability and durability of the completed facilities, and also for supporting the sides and roofs of horizontal, inclined and vertical mine workings of various purposes, shapes and sizes.

Standard Solutions

Waterproofing and drainage of mines and tunnels

Drainage and water discharge structures are required to protect underground tunnels and mines from the adverse effects of groundwater. In complex hydrological conditions, drainage made from natural materials does not eliminate the possibility of flooding, so the use of geosynthetics in the construction of underground structures becomes essential.

The following ТЕХПОЛИМЕР geosynthetic materials are used in the construction of mines and tunnels: geomembrane, geotextile, 3D geomat, and Бентотех АСЛ bentonite mats.

A drainage system using geosynthetics completely prevents water from penetrating the structure, reduces transportation costs, simplifies construction, and prevents deformation of the structure, extending its service life.

Mine and tunnel mesh

ТЕХПОЛИМЕР reinforcing geogrids and geonets are used in mines, open-pit workings, ore mines, and the mining and coal industries to support and secure the sides and roofs of horizontal, inclined, and vertical mine workings of various purposes, shapes, and sizes.

Advantages of geosynthetic reinforcing materials:

  • Flammability group — low flammability;
  • Not subject to corrosion;
  • High resistance to acids;
  • High strength;
  • Easy installation;
  • Low weight;
  • High degree of contact with the rock mass.

Construction of sewage shafts and collectors

Sewage collectors and tunnels collect and discharge wastewater to pumping stations and treatment facilities. The construction of sewage collectors requires a range of technical solutions to ensure reliable operation and the environmental safety of urban and natural environments. Since the sewage system runs underground and is regularly exposed to groundwater and precipitation, waterproofing is a key stage of its construction.

To prevent concrete washout and reinforcement corrosion, which can lead to structural failure and the discharge of wastewater into the soil, ТЕХПОЛИМЕР geomembrane is used.

To protect reinforced concrete from moisture and corrosion in mine shafts and microtunnelling pipes, the V-LOCK polymer anchor sheet is recommended. It addresses issues that arise during the operation of underground structures and are associated with exposure to aggressive environments, including groundwater and sewage. In addition, the material helps distribute loads across the concrete and prevents cracking.
