  • Task

Pumping and dewatering of river sediments, followed by transport to a municipal solid waste landfill.

    Solution

Geotubes are large-scale containers made of woven geotextile fabric that retain sediment inside while water passes through the walls, providing dewatered soil for subsequent transportation and disposal.

The geotube is filled with sludge, after which dewatering takes place – water is filtered through the container walls by gravity, while the sludge remains inside. Dewatering significantly facilitates drying the sludge inside the container and transporting it to a municipal solid waste landfill.

    Technology Advantages
    • The technology reduces the space and time required for dewatering
    • Geotubes occupy a relatively small area and can be arranged in several tiers
    • The volume of waste is reduced threefold after dewatering
    • Contaminated bottom sediments remain in the containers, while the treated water is returned to the water body
    • The containers can be opened or integrated into a bank protection system, avoiding the costs of their removal and disposal
