  • Task

Installation of seepage-control liners for three mine water storage ponds.

    Solution

Material that provides complete watertightness and protects the pond base —  a geomembrane, consisting of a smooth polymer sheet made from virgin polyethylene.

The polymer sheets are laid manually, without the use of construction equipment. The geomembrane is installed with overlaps to create a continuous insulation layer. A hot-air welding machine or handheld extruder is used to weld the geomembrane.

A nonwoven geotextile is laid as a separator between contacting layers and to protect the geomembrane from damage. It is made of polypropylene fibres using the “Spunbond” method and is laid on the prepared base.

    Technology advantages
    • Ease and speed of installation
    • Prevention of erosion of the structure’s foundation and slopes
    • Non-toxicity and environmental safety of the material
    • Extended service life of the structure
