Remediation of the Kulakovsky MSW landfill in the Moscow Region

Creation of a protective cover on the surface of a municipal solid waste landfill to prevent the formation of leachate and biogas within the landfill body. 

The “TechPolymer” landfill reclamation system uses modern geosynthetic materials as an effective and safe solution for the conservation of municipal solid waste landfills.  

An impermeable cover has been created on the landfill surface to protect the waste from atmospheric precipitation, preventing its further decomposition and the formation of leachate and biogas, while helping to improve the environmental conditions in adjacent areas.
The impermeable cover consists of geosynthetic materials, including geotextile for separating soil and sand layers, the “Bentotech ASL” bentonite mat and a type 5/1 geomembrane for waterproofing, the “Hydromat 3D” drainage mat for removing rainwater and meltwater from the landfill surface, as well as the three-dimensional “Geomate 3D” erosion-control mat.

The landfill slopes have also been reinforced with RD road geogrid.
