Task
The objectives of reclaiming any municipal solid waste landfill are:
- Reduction of pollutant emissions into the atmosphere
- Protection of groundwater from contamination
- Prevention of landfill leachate formation
- Effective biogas removal
- Prevention of erosion and landslide processes caused by precipitation and snowmelt
- Landscaping of the reclaimed landfill
SolutionTo protect waste from atmospheric precipitation, a technical solution for the external waterproofing of the landfill body is used – creating a sealed cover over the waste.
For reinforcing the surface and slopes of the landfill, RD/M geogrid is installed with a protective geotextile layer. Hydromat 3D serves as the biogas drainage layer. Insulating layers consisting of Bentotech bentonite mat type ASL and a 4/2-type geomembrane are then installed. The second drainage layer with Hydromat is required to drain rainwater and meltwater from the landfill surface.
A mechanically stabilised earth retaining wall is a technical solution using Stabiligrunt material to reinforce the slopes of the landfill body and prevent erosion and landslide processes. This type of retaining wall is resistant to differential settlement of the foundation.
Landscaping the landfill with Biomat material is part of the technical solutions used for its comprehensive remediation. RD geogrid is used to reinforce the landfill road surface.
The toxic leachate storage tank is lined with a TEHPOLYMER anchor sheet, providing 100% corrosion resistance. A BlockTech polymer underground tank that requires no assembly is used to collect stormwater runoff.
