Task
The objectives of the reclamation of any municipal solid waste landfill are:
- Reduction of pollutant emissions into the atmosphere
- Protection of groundwater from contamination
- Prevention of landfill leachate formation
- Effective biogas drainage
- Prevention of erosion and landslide processes caused by atmospheric precipitation and snowmelt
- Landscaping of the reclaimed landfill.
SolutionTo protect the waste from atmospheric precipitation, a technical solution for the external waterproofing of the landfill body is used, involving the creation of a sealed screen over the waste.
For reinforcing the surface and slopes of the landfill, RD/M Geogrid is installed with a protective geotextile layer. Hydromat 3D serves as the biogas drainage layer. Insulating layers of Bentotech bentonite mat grade АСЛ and Type 4/1 geomembrane are then installed. The second drainage layer with Hydromat is required to drain rainwater and meltwater from the landfill surface.
To prevent landfill leachate from entering groundwater, a cutoff sheet-pile wall made of profiled PVC sheet piling (Geospunt) is installed around the landfill, embedded into the aquiclude.
A reinforced-soil retaining wall is a technical solution using Stabigrunt to reinforce the slopes of the landfill body and prevent erosion and landslide processes. This retaining wall is resistant to differential foundation settlement, and the structure as a whole is watertight.
The technical solutions used for the comprehensive reclamation of the landfill include greening it with Biomat. RD Geogrid is used to reinforce the landfill road pavement.
