From 19 May, large-scale planting of flower crops will begin in Chelyabinsk — more than 25,000 petunias, ageratums and salvias, as well as tree and shrub seedlings. The plants were grown in a year-round greenhouse located on the site of a reclaimed municipal landfill.

Key technological aspects of the project:

Use of biogas for heating the greenhouse complex. The gas is collected by vertical geodrains and transported through pipelines from the reclaimed landfill, ensuring energy efficiency and reducing environmental impact.

Use of geosynthetic materials manufactured by «TechPolymer». A seepage control liner consisting of multifunctional layers — namely, a reinforcing RD geogrid, the Hydromat 3D drainage mat, the bentonite clay-based self-healing mat Bentotech ASL, geomembranes, and the roll-form Biomat for rapid revegetation — completely prevents landfill gas emissions into the atmosphere, ensuring environmental safety throughout the entire former landfill site.

This project demonstrates the effectiveness of an integrated approach to reclamation, combining:

restoration of disturbed areas followed by their use in municipal services.
