The major refurbishment of a twin-cell culvert at the URALCHEM-TRANS facility has been completed. The work was carried out using the “PipeArm” technology with the application of V-LOCK polymer anchor sheet. The refurbishment included a full range of measures without interrupting rail traffic.

Preparatory stage:
- Cleaning cavities, cracks and damaged joints between the pipe sections.
-
Installation of a 30 mm thick XPS expansion joint to compensate for thermal expansion;
-
Tying longitudinal and transverse reinforcement and forming the strengthening frame.
-
Cutting polymer sheet blanks to form the protective sleeve.

Sealing the polymer sleeve:
-
Welding the V-LOCK anchor sheet seams inside the pipe;
-
Installing and welding the tapered sleeve segments;
-
Installing end plugs at the inlet and outlet, with complete sealing of the connections.

Formwork and concreting:
-
Strengthening the formwork with plywood and steel rings;
-
Injection filling of the space between the existing pipe and the sleeve;
-
Removing the formwork after the concrete had reached the required strength and sealing the construction openings.

Result:
The work was completed at an operating facility without interrupting rolling stock traffic, dismantling the embankment or removing the structures.
