For an exchange of experience, the Association “Cities of the Urals” visited Chelyabinsk’s former municipal landfill

On 26 July, the anniversary meeting of the Association “Cities of the Urals” was held in Chelyabinsk. More than two dozen municipal leaders came to the city to exchange successful practices and discuss challenges and current issues.

As part of the Association’s meeting, a delegation of municipal leaders visited the former Chelyabinsk city landfill. The purpose of the visit was to learn from the experience of reclaiming environmentally hazardous sites.

This reclaimed landfill is the largest in the country by area.

Over two years, it was transformed into a green hill, reducing harmful emissions into the city’s atmosphere by 30%.

The TechPolymer Group of Companies carried out extensive work using advanced technologies.  Modern geosynthetic materials were used to construct a multifunctional protective cover for the landfill body.

An active degassing system was installed, commissioned and serviced to eliminate hazardous emissions into the atmosphere.

Treatment facilities for liquid and semi-liquid waste were installed.

It was this comprehensive approach to addressing environmental challenges that eliminated the threat to the environment for the city of over one million people.
