New exclusive toys for polar bears have appeared at the Royev Ruchey Park. The huge cylinders with scent and sound capsules were manufactured by TechPolymer Group under a special order from the Autonomous Nonprofit Organisation “Wildlife Society,” with the support of PJSC “NK “Rosneft.”
The toys are large cylinders with openings and concealed capsules into which zoologists can place treats, pieces of aromatic plants, cloths soaked in fish oil, or infused with other scents that interest bears.
The polar bears Aurora, Felix and Ursula liked the new toys very much. Ursula was most interested in the scent of fish oil, which she loves, while Aurora liked the toy containing grass.
“When the toys were first placed in the enclosure, Aurora could not grasp the cylinder properly or throw it into the water for a long time. She hugged the toy with her front paws but could not carry it to the pool. Then Felix took the cylinder in his huge mouth and threw it into the water, and Aurora immediately dived in after it,” explains Alina Ekaterinina, a methodologist at Royev Ruchey Park.
The Autonomous Nonprofit Organisation “Wildlife Society” ordered 64 toys—32 balls and 32 cylinders—which will be delivered to all Russian zoos that keep polar bears. Each bear will receive one ball and one cylinder with scent and sound capsules.
