In the Republic of Buryatia, on the border with Mongolia, construction workers completed the rehabilitation of the two-lane A-333 road. The major rehabilitation of the Category IV road section was carried out in the Tunkinsky District.
Prior to the major rehabilitation, engineering and geological surveys of the sections scheduled for rehabilitation revealed waterlogged subgrade soils, marshy areas and elevated groundwater levels.
To drain water and lower the groundwater level, based on the results of the surveys, the construction team installed a deep drainage system on the uphill side of the slope using modules «БлокТех» TU 22.29.29-014-56910145-2018 wrapped in nonwoven geotextile STO 56910145-009-2014.
In addition, to divert water from the longitudinal drainage system, the road builders installed a transverse deep drainage system using «БлокТех» modules wrapped in nonwoven geotextile at 50 m intervals. The design also included inspection wells made of «БлокТех» modules wrapped in nonwoven geotextile.
The «БлокТех» technology involves the production of rapidly assembled polymer underground infiltration and storage reservoirs for treated, domestic wastewater, stormwater and meltwater, as well as buried drainage systems. The geotextile in the buried drainage structure performs an infiltration function.
The structural frames of the «БлокТех» structures were assembled directly at the construction site from the main upper and lower modules and additionally connected with side panels, sectional covers and retainers.
The construction workers installed the drainage systems during periods of negative average daily temperatures to prevent possible thawing of permafrost soils.
The advantages of using the «БлокТех» technology include:
- Installation speed - the frame of a V=1000 m3 reservoir can be assembled in 1 day without using heavy construction equipment
- The working volume is 95%
- Convenient storage and transportation (transporting all «БлокТех» elements required to construct a 300 m3 reservoir requires just 1 euro truck)
- Resistance to corrosion, decay, aggressive environments, UV radiation and temperature fluctuations
- Operation at temperatures from minus 60 to plus 60 °С
