Construction of monolithic tanks for collecting acidic effluent as part of the wastewater treatment facilities at the Chelyabinsk Zinc Plant is currently nearing completion. The purpose of the construction is to provide waterproofing and protection of reinforced concrete under highly aggressive environmental conditions at the facility “Local Industrial Wastewater Treatment Facilities, JSC “ChTsZ”.”
The waterproofing and chemical protection of the monolithic reinforced concrete tanks is being carried out using 4 mm thick V-LOCK polymer anchor sheet manufactured by “TechPolymer”.
The technical specifications required:
- two completed tanks to receive chloride-sulfate wastewater from zinc production (constant medium temperature of +50–+70 °C);
- the third tank to receive a concentrated saline wastewater stream (constant medium temperature of +90 °C).
Since the medium discharged into the tanks is highly aggressive and has an elevated temperature, the project adopted a solution involving the lining of the internal surfaces with V-LOCK anchor sheet for durable protection of the reinforced concrete structures. The anchor sheet was manufactured from a special type of raw material: a copolymer of polypropylene and ethylene. Manufactured for specific operating conditions, the V-LOCK anchor sheet withstands constant exposure to hot steam and chemically aggressive wastewater.
The filling of the screed space at the bottom of the tanks for installation of the anchor sheet was designed using the high-strength IS-21 injection compound.
Integrated sealing assemblies were developed and supplied for the passage of process openings.
The builders plan to complete the work in February 2023.
As a result of the construction, the customer will receive:
- complete protection of the reinforced concrete tank from aggressive environments;
- extended service life of the wastewater treatment facilities;
- reliable waterproofing providing protection against flooding.
