The clean-up of the largest dumpsites in the Sovetsky, Kirovsky and Leninsky administrative districts of Omsk is ongoing. Waste was transported to the dumpsites as far back as the last century. The former dumpsites are now being reclaimed in strict accordance with the schedule, with no delays.
At the site in Omsk’s Sovetsky administrative district, work is underway to install the landfill’s upper reclamation cover, including a biomat from “TechPolymer” for simple and effective landscaping. A drainage ditch is being developed and sheet piles are being installed. The technical completion of reclamation is 92%. A degassing system was used at this site, directing landfill gas to wells with carbon filters. Biogas components such as hydrogen sulfide and sulfur will be retained by the filters to prevent odours.
At the site in Omsk’s Kirovsky administrative district, technical completion is 84%. Work is underway to install the structural layers.
The technical completion of reclamation at the dumpsite in Omsk’s Leninsky administrative district is 83%. Before reclamation, the contaminated area exceeded 51 ha; during the site clean-up, the contaminated areas were significantly reduced. Work is currently underway to install degassing wells. A geogrid manufactured by “TechPolymer” is being installed to reinforce the slopes of the waste body. The utility area is being levelled and a protective landfill cover made of loam is being installed.
Work at the landfills is being carried out as part of the federal project “Clean Country” under the national “Ecology” project. As a reminder, last year the reclamation of the dumpsite in Omsk’s Central administrative district was completed as part of the “Ecology” project. The reclamation of the remaining three Omsk sites is scheduled for completion in the second half of 2024.
