On 6 April 2023, geosynthetic materials «ТехПолимер» were delivered to Norilsk for the first time via a winter road. They will be used for construction work to expand the existing Talnakh Concentrator (ТОФ) tailings storage facility. The construction site is located 6 km from Talnakh.
The first shipment was delivered from Novy Urengoy along the winter road by five KamAZ trucks. Over three days, the vehicles covered 750 km. A total of 77 tonnes of geosynthetics for ТОФ were unloaded in Norilsk.
The «ТехПолимер» materials will be used to install a seepage barrier for the surge tank during the reconstruction and technical upgrade of ТОФ, increasing its capacity to 18 million tonnes per year of total ore production (the second phase of construction of the ТОФ tailings storage facility).
Once completed, the surge tank will store excess water generated in the settling pond of the second phase during periods of high water flow. In addition, the surge tank will be used to return water to the settling pond during periods of low water flow or to the recirculating water supply system.
The major reconstruction of the Talnakh Concentrator began in 2014 with the construction of two start-up complexes and engineering structures for a new tailings storage facility, aimed at increasing processing capacity. This is one of the largest investment projects of «Норникель» included in the company’s Development Strategy.
