The work is progressing ahead of schedule.
The technical stage of reclamation at the municipal solid waste landfill in Sudak is nearing completion: the first tens of square metres of topsoil are being laid. The next stage, biological reclamation, will involve preparing the site for landscaping and planting.
As part of the landfill cover system, geosynthetic materials were installed: a bentonite mat («Bentotech»), a geomembrane (polymer sheet, type 4/2), a three-axis 3D hydromat, and a reinforcing RD 100 geogrid. One of the protective layers used, for the first time in Russia, was a unique environmentally safe material, «Bentoplast», made from a mixture of sand, polymer additives and clay.
In parallel, local wastewater treatment facilities are being installed: pipes are being laid and fibreglass tanks are being installed for the collection and treatment of stormwater runoff.
A passive degassing system has also been arranged at the landfill by installing a network of gas drainage wells.
The landfill reclamation is progressing significantly ahead of schedule, and by 2024 the site will be returned to economic use in Crimea.
“In the coming years, grass will be sown here, and it will be maintained and watered,” said Konstantin Podsevalov, Head of the Sudak City Administration.
