In November 2022, work was completed on the installation of edge drainage channels to divert stormwater from the carriageway of the road located in the Baikal municipal formation of Slyudyansky District, Irkutsk Region.
During the major repair of protective road structures on a section of the R-258 “Baikal” highway, the builders used concrete canvas manufactured by “TechPolymer”. To prevent wastewater from the highway entering the coastal protection zone of Lake Baikal, filtration areas were installed at the roadside water outlets.
In accordance with the requirements, water is diverted from the carriageway through edge drainage channels made of flexible roll material — concrete canvas, with wastewater discharged into the ditch system and water directed to lower areas of the terrain. The material made it possible to create concrete structures without using mixing equipment. Due to the flexibility of the uncured concrete canvas, which can be easily cut with hand tools, the builders formed sharp bends in the drainage channels. The resulting structures are a modern, cost-effective solution comparable in reliability and strength to reinforcement with concrete slabs. The material is resistant to cracking, UV radiation and temperature fluctuations.
