The active phase of reconstruction of the interchange on the Kachugsky Tract is continuing in Irkutsk. Work is ongoing at the site to construct a temporary diversion road, which will carry the intensive traffic flow during the construction period. The road embankment is currently being compacted, and road geogrid RD/M manufactured by TechPolymer is being installed.
RD geogrid: reinforcement of foundations for an embankment and a culvert
Recent footage from the site shows two key stages in the use of RD geogrid: reinforcement of the road embankment foundation for the temporary diversion road and installation of geogrid beneath the foundation of the future culvert. In weak, water-saturated soils, the use of RD geogrid enables loads to be distributed evenly, prevents interpenetration of the layers and ensures the stability of the structures throughout their service life.
Reinforcement using RD geogrid addresses the following tasks:
-
increasing the bearing capacity of the weak foundation;
-
reducing the pavement thickness and the volume of imported materials;
-
preventing differential settlement beneath pipes and embankments.
Work plan for 2026
This year, the contractor plans to complete construction of the temporary diversion roads, install the culvert and begin dismantling the old overpass. This will allow the main works for construction of the grade-separated interchange to begin.
Importance of the project for the region
The reconstruction will increase the interchange capacity to 50,000 vehicles per day, significantly easing traffic leaving Irkutsk. The project is being implemented במסגרת the national project «Infrastructure for Life» with a total budget of more than 5 billion roubles.
