On 29 October, North Ossetia Prime Minister Boris Dzhanaev held a working meeting with responsible staff from relevant ministries and agencies and inspected the progress of work on the rehabilitation of the municipal solid waste landfill in Vladikavkaz.
The formation of the landfill body has been completed, and the installation of a protective screen made of geosynthetic materials has begun. Work is currently underway to lay a reinforcing layer of «Geogrid RD».
The rehabilitation of the Vladikavkaz municipal solid waste landfill began in 2020 as part of the federal Clean Country project under the national Ecology project. The landfill occupies more than 80 ha, and almost 4.2 million cubic metres of municipal solid waste accumulated there over 50 years of operation. The overall scope of work comprises 4 stages. Following the rehabilitation of the landfill, a technopark will be launched, comprising a waste sorting complex with three sorting lines.
A landscaped area will be created on the site of the former landfill, and the work is scheduled for completion in 2022.
