The volume of the body of the Lesnaya municipal solid waste landfill in the Serpukhov urban district exceeds 1 million cubic metres, comparable to the volume of the glaciers of Mount Elbrus!
Operation of the Lesnaya municipal solid waste landfill began in the 1970s, and waste acceptance was discontinued in 2020. Over 50 years, 6.2 million tonnes of waste accumulated across an area of 33 hectares.
Large-scale reclamation works at the Moscow Region facility are being carried out in 2 shifts. A total of 272 people and 233 units of equipment are involved in eliminating the accumulated environmental damage.
More than 90% of the reshaping of the Lesnaya landfill body has been completed.
Key works:
- installation of a sand levelling layer – more than 55 000 m³;
- construction of a sheet-pile enclosure - 8 600 m2.
Construction of a mechanically stabilised earth retaining wall:
- installation of RD geogrid – 47 000 m2;
- laying of geotextile - 85 000 m2.
