A New Lease of Life for a Livestock Passage: Major Renovation in Novosibirsk Region

13 December 2024

The major renovation of a livestock passage beneath an important transport artery—the Novosibirsk—Leninsk-Kuznetsky highway—is nearing completion in the Novosibirsk Region. The renovated facility combines the functions of a wildlife passage and a culvert and is necessary to improve safety for both fauna and drivers and the goods being transported.

Over the course of its existence and operation, the structure developed a number of defects that significantly affected the durability of the structure and of this section of the highway as a whole.

The renovation project provided for the rehabilitation of the structure using the «PipeArm» technology with permanent formwork made of polymer protective sleeve and an injected high-strength, non-shrink casting compound.

The «PipeArm» technology made it possible to eliminate damage in the joints between sections, the reinforcement cage and the concrete protective layer, as well as to increase the load-bearing capacity of the structure under new traffic loads. In addition, this rehabilitation method ensured complete watertightness of the structure’s inner surface, thereby increasing the concrete’s resistance to corrosion. Thanks to the «PipeArm» technology, the entire scope of work was completed without dismantling the reinforced-concrete structure sections.

As a result of implementing the design solutions for reinforcing and rehabilitating the livestock passage, the structure’s durability has been increased and road traffic safety has been ensured for all road users.
