In 2014, a municipal solid waste landfill in Dolgoprudny was closed. Its site is now being reclaimed. A green zone is planned for the site. «360» shows what has already been done at the landfill.
The Head of Dolgoprudny issued a resolution to close the landfill in 2014. The reclamation project was developed in 2015 at the initiative of the city administration. Three years later, the landfill was included in the federal and regional «Clean Country» reclamation programmes.
The site is being restored under a co-financing programme. Funding was allocated from the federal, regional and local budgets.
Specialists are currently working on the landfill body. Toxic leachate will be removed from the landfill body through a network of pipes into special containers. This provides 100% assurance that not a drop of harmful liquid will enter the river or groundwater. Dolgoprudny expects the landfill site to become a green zone after reclamation.
Landfill reclamation is a necessary and most environmentally sound solution to such «waste-related» situations. In addition to the landfill in Dolgoprudny, four more landfills are expected to be commissioned in the Moscow Region this year. The nearest are «Kulakovsky» near Chekhov and «Annino» near Ruza.
Five high-tech waste processing facilities are currently operating in the Moscow Region. Two more waste processing facilities are expected to be launched soon. Thanks to the opening of these facilities, 28 municipal solid waste landfills have already been closed in the Moscow Region.
The region has switched to separate waste collection, and waste is now sent to such facilities. The «360» channel showed how they operate using the «Yug» waste processing facility in Myachkovo as an example.
