Kazan. 21 September. INTERFAX-VOLGA REGION - The experience gained in implementing the project to reclaim sludge ponds at Kazan’s wastewater treatment facilities should be replicated in other regions, Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Viktoria Abramchenko believes.
"The project is being completed on schedule — at the end of 2024. Today, we spoke with the head of the republic (Tatarstan — IF): in order to replicate this advanced experience across the country, we will probably have to hold a series of seminars here in Kazan for the authorities responsible for the water treatment system in the Russian Federation. This experience should be demonstrated and replicated," Abramchenko told reporters in Kazan on Thursday.
The Deputy Prime Minister noted that the project to modernise Kazan’s wastewater treatment facilities provides for the processing of sludge into granules that can be used as fertiliser, engineered soil or biofuel for cement plants.
"There will no longer be any need for new sites on the banks of the Volga that would pollute the Volga with sludge, while the giant landfill — more than 100 hectares — that we visited today, containing old sludge, is being reclaimed using a complex, virtually pioneering technology and will no longer pose any danger to the Volga," the Deputy Prime Minister said.
The sludge pond reclamation project was developed by the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of Tatarstan and is being implemented במסגרת the federal project "Rehabilitation of the Volga" under the national project "Ecology," with the support of the federal authorities and the republic’s leadership.
