On 22 April, Yegoryevsk Urban District was visited by Pavel Aleksandrovich Bida, First Deputy Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Moscow Region.
The Deputy Minister inspected the progress of work at the «Yegoryevsky» landfill in the Moscow Region. At this stage of remediation, the formation of the municipal solid waste landfill body and the construction of the reinforced-soil wall are nearing completion, with the work assessed as 90% complete. In addition, the construction of the low-permeability barrier has been completed.
Engineering structures are being constructed using «TechPolymer» geosynthetics. In particular, the «Stabigrunt» geosynthetic material is used to construct the reinforced-soil wall, strengthen the slopes of the landfill body, and prevent erosion and landslide processes. This retaining wall is resistant to differential foundation settlement. To prevent the landfill body contents from adversely affecting the environment, specialists are installing a multilayer low-permeability barrier made of geosynthetic materials manufactured by «TechPolymer»:
- Installation of the gas drainage layer «Hydromat 3D»
- «Bentotech» waterproofing geocomposite multilayer covering
- «Hydrox» profiled geomembrane
- «Bentoplast» - an environmentally safe material made from a mixture of sand, polymer additives, and clay.
In addition, a rapidly assembled «BlokTech» underground polymer reservoir is used to collect stormwater runoff:
The «Yegoryevsky» landfill began operating in 1964. During this period, it accumulated more than 3.5 million tonnes of waste. In December 2019, the landfill was closed by decision of the Governor of the Moscow Region. «After that, work began on its remediation. It is expected to be completed in 2024. It should be noted that we have not simply closed the landfill; we will turn it into an environmentally clean area,» wrote Dmitry Vikulov, Head of Yegoryevsk Urban District, on his Telegram channel.
