On 24 October, the progress of the work was inspected by the Mayor of Omsk, Sergey Shelest: «It is planned that this facility will be fully commissioned in summer 2023. This is a major and highly significant event for the city. I hope that all our municipal landfills will be disposed of in the same way».
As of the end of October, work is underway to reshape the landfill body. Soil compaction works are being carried out, and a levelling layer of sandy loam is being installed over a framework made of the reinforcing material RD-100 geogrid manufactured by TechPolymer, which will ensure uniform load distribution and prevent soil settlement. By the end of October, 166 500 m2 of geogrid had been installed. Installation of 80 900 m2 of Type 4/2 geomembrane had been completed; this material ensures reliable adhesion to the foundation soils. This multilayer protective covering will prevent harmful vapours from being released into the atmosphere.
Workers are carrying out work to divert groundwater. Trees and shrubs will later be planted on the reclaimed site.
