Vladimir Putin Officially Opens New Section of the M-12 Vostok Highway

President Vladimir Putin officially opened on Thursday, 21 December, a new section of Stage 6 of the M-12 Vostok motorway connecting Moscow and Kazan. Stage 6 is a four-lane Category I road with two lanes in each direction and a design speed of 120 kilometres per hour.

From 2020 to 2023, TechPolymer materials and technologies were used in the construction of the motorway for drainage, landscaping, rehabilitation of culverts, construction of reinforced-soil retaining walls and other works.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, the President highlighted the high professionalism and diligence of the workers, engineers and designers, which enabled the project to be completed ahead of schedule. In his address, Putin expressed his hope of personally assessing the quality of the new road by travelling along it from Moscow to Kazan.

This section of the M-12 motorway includes 25 bridges, 11 overpasses providing connections between separated areas, 6 crossings for agricultural machinery, two wildlife overpasses, one animal crossing and one interchange. Stage 6 can accommodate between 10,000 and 40,000 vehicles per day. The total length of Stage 6 is 133 km.
