In Tver, at kilometre 13 of Bezhetskoye Highway, work continues on the remediation of a large municipal solid waste landfill. The area of the formed waste body is 150,097 m2. Restoration of 18.7 ha of land is under way. The work is scheduled for completion by the end of October this year.
The landfill has not been operated since September 2018 and accumulated more than 4 million cu. m of waste during its operation.
During the landfill remediation in Tver, workers are moving waste masses, installing horizontal drains, constructing an anchor trench and a reinforced-soil retaining wall, as well as constructing tanks for leachate treatment, leachate collection and fire protection. In addition, geosynthetic materials are being installed, including high-strength nonwoven geotextile STO 56910145-009-2014.
This polymer material can perform several functions simultaneously – protecting waterproofing materials (geomembranes) from damage through its tensile and puncture strength, while also effectively serving filtration and drainage purposes.
When used at municipal solid waste landfills, nonwoven geotextile demonstrates high resistance to chemicals, temperature fluctuations, ultraviolet radiation and decay.
