The work is being carried out under the “Ecology and Environment of the Moscow Region” programme, commissioned by Andrey Vorobyov, Governor of the Moscow Region.
Since 2012, the Lesnaya municipal solid waste landfill has received household waste at a volume of 450,000 tonnes per year; its area is 32.8 ha. The landfill was closed at the end of December 2020. The reclamation project provides for the installation of active degassing systems, as well as leachate collection and treatment systems.
The following works are currently being carried out:
- installation of a vertical anti-filtration barrier (the best available technology for preventing contamination of the geological environment and groundwater by leachate) — this technical solution is a “wall in the ground” made of Геошпунт СТО 56910145-011-2015 manufactured by “ТехПолимер”, resistant to aggressive exposure to leachate and UV radiation, as well as temperature fluctuations;
- installation of Георешетка РД СТО 30478650-001-2012 and нетканый Геотекстиль manufactured by “ТехПолимер” to construct the AГС base (the use of geosynthetic materials in AГС construction is currently recognised as the best available technology for reinforcing external slopes);
- reforming of the landfill body.
The reclamation work at the Lesnaya landfill is proceeding according to schedule. The formation of the Lesnaya landfill body will be completed in autumn, and all reclamation work by the end of 2024.
