19 June marked an on-site working meeting on the reconstruction of the municipal solid waste landfill in the Rodnikovskoye rural settlement of Belorechensky District, Krasnodar Krai.

The landfill is the only facility for waste disposal in the Belorechensk zone, which includes Belorechensky, Apsheronsky and Tuapsinsky districts, as well as the cities of Sochi and Goryachy Klyuch. As part of the landfill reconstruction, the disposal area will be expanded by almost 4 ha.

Earlier, Glavgosekspertiza approved the design solutions under which the construction organisation is to: equip a composting area, install a degassing system to collect landfill gas, construct a protective screen, install a leachate barrier, drill six monitoring wells to control groundwater levels and quality, and increase the capacity of the leachate collection and treatment system.

Work is currently being carried out according to schedule at one of Russia’s largest municipal solid waste landfills in Belorechensky District:

  • earthworks are being carried out to reshape the waste body,
  • construction of the pit and installation in its base of an impermeable geomembrane with an upper layer of geotextile to protect the geomembrane from puncture have been completed,
  • installation of the KNS equipment is ongoing,
  • the first units of the leachate treatment system have been delivered.

According to the project, the landfill will be remediated in two stages. The technical stage is expected to be completed by the end of the year, after which the biological stage will begin and continue for four years.
