As part of the national project «Environmental Well-Being», the reclamation of sludge ponds continues. This is the only major environmental project being implemented in the Republic of Tatarstan this year. According to the regional government, 89% of the work has been completed to date, with most of it carried out using advanced geosynthetic solutions.
The project includes:

Cleaning 140 ha of the area from sludge deposits;

Processing 4 million m³ of sludge using the geotubing method;

Creating a multilayer protective barrier using advanced geomaterials.
To ensure the facility’s durability and environmental safety, an integrated system has been used to protect groundwater from seepage. It includes:

Reinforcing RD geogrid – to stabilise the foundation;

Geotextile – as a separating and filtering layer;
-
Bentonite mat "Bentotech ASL" – for waterproofing;

Drainage mat "Hydromat 3D" – for effective moisture drainage;

Polymer waterproofing membrane Type 4/2 – an additional barrier against seepage.
The sludge is pumped into geotubes through a slurry pipeline made of polyethylene pipes, enabling the safe disposal of waste and reducing its environmental impact.
This project demonstrates the effectiveness of geosynthetic materials in addressing complex environmental challenges. The use of advanced technologies not only accelerates the reclamation process but also provides long-term protection for the ecosystem.
