On 4 July 2023, the result of the rehabilitation of the municipal solid waste landfill in Vladikavkaz was assessed by Sergey Menyailo, Head of the Republic of North Ossetia.
The work at the 72 ha site was carried out under the federal “Clean Country” programme of the national “Environment” project.
Eleven facilities and structures were built on the landfill site. The landfill body perimeter was formed; work was carried out to install a drainage network, develop the channel and reinforce the banks of the Chernaya River, degas and cover the landfill body with a protective screen, and landscape and green the site. Meadow grasses and oak seedlings were planted.
Modern geosynthetic materials manufactured by Techpolymer Group were used during the rehabilitation, including:
- BentoTech bentonite mat and geomembrane for waterproofing;
- Hydromat for diverting rainwater and meltwater from the landfill surface;
- RD reinforced geogrid for reinforcing the slopes of the municipal solid waste landfill body formed into a prism.
“Now, in place of the old landfill, where more than 4.5 million tonnes of waste had accumulated, there is a green area where trees and shrubs have already been planted. The work took about two years,” said Sergey Menyailo.
