The reclamation of the municipal solid waste landfill in Sudak has been completed significantly ahead of schedule. The measures, carried out in three stages (preparatory, technical and biological), will substantially improve the quality of life for the population and the environmental conditions in the region.
The uninterrupted supply of quality materials and new solutions from TechPolymer Group greatly contributed to the early completion of the works.
The 11 ha site was capped by installing a protective landfill cover consisting of geosynthetic materials: a bentonite mat («Bentotech»), a geomembrane (polymer sheet type 4/2), a three-axial 3D geomat, and a reinforcing RD 100 geogrid. It was at the Sudak landfill that a unique environmentally safe material, «Bentoplast», made from a mixture of sand, polymer additives and clay, was used for the first time in Russia as one of the protective layers.
During the final biological stage, the landfill site was sown with perennial plants and grasses. The plantings will subsequently be maintained and mowed regularly.
