Repair of a circular reinforced-concrete culvert on the A-310 Chelyabinsk–Troitsk highway

29 October 2021

In 2021, a three-barrel reinforced concrete culvert was repaired at km 135+496 of the Chelyabinsk–Troitsk road using the «PipeArm» technology in accordance with GOST 59200-2021. The «PipeArm» technology helps prevent structural failure and extend its service life to 50 years or more. The work does not require dismantling the embankment or constructing detour roads. The technology involves installing a polymer protective liner with a reinforcement frame inside the culvert.

The high-density polyethylene polymer liner has a smooth surface with a low coefficient of hydraulic resistance on one side and special anchoring elements on the other side for securing it in the monolithic concrete layer.

The reinforcement frame consists of longitudinal and transverse reinforcement. It is manufactured on site and attached to the walls of the reinforced concrete culvert. The space between the polymer liner and the culvert body is filled with a special high-strength, non-shrink, self-compacting mixture with increased workability, which reliably bonds the reinforcement frame and the anchoring elements of the polymer liner.

As a result, a single structure is created with high load-bearing capacity and low hydraulic resistance, resistant to the adverse effects of water, with minimal reduction in the internal diameter of the culvert.
