The repair of the spiral corrugated metal (SCM) culvert pipe on the M-12 "Vostok" motorway at PK 5731 + 82.29 is nearing completion.
A culvert pipe is an engineering structure designed to convey water beneath a road, protecting the road embankment and the surrounding environment from the adverse effects of uncontrolled water flows. However, over time or as a result of excessive loads, these pipes wear out and lose their load-bearing capacity. Culvert pipe rehabilitation is necessary to maintain their serviceability.
At PK 5731 + 82.29, the 2.5 m diameter SCM pipe required rehabilitation due to non-design loads. The 48 m long pipe was divided by an expansion joint into two sections measuring 18 and 30 m. To restore the pipe's load-bearing capacity and ensure the tightness and strength of the structure, the pipe was concreted using a high-strength mix and permanent polymer formwork made of a protective polymer sleeve and V-LOCK anchor sheet (TU 2246-003-56910145-2014).
The repair work was completed in several main stages:
- preparation of the pipe surface before installing the protective sleeve,
- installation and securing of the reinforcement cage,
- installation of the protective polymer sleeve inside the pipe and welding of the sleeve seams,
- filling the space between the pipe and the sleeve with an injection mix.
The rehabilitation restored the required load-bearing capacity of the culvert structure. Following the installation work, the pipe diameter was reduced to 2240 mm, while the structure retained its flow capacity.
