Divnogorsk, [19 September] – On Friday, an off-site meeting of the Committee on Natural Resources and Ecology of the Krasnoyarsk Territory was held at the production site of the «TechPolymer» group of companies in Divnogorsk. The central topic of the meeting was the mechanisms for achieving a key indicator of the national project «Environmental Wellbeing»: involving at least 25% of waste in secondary use by 2030. The «TechPolymer» plant, which has unique full-cycle experience in the region – from processing polymer raw materials to landfill reclamation using its own geosynthetics, – acted not only as the host, but also as an active participant in discussions aimed at developing specific solutions.
The deputies, led by Committee Chair Vitaly Drozdov, toured the plant’s facilities, where geosynthetic materials have been produced for more than 25 years. The guests were shown how the plant’s products – geomembranes, geogrids, drainage mats and others – are used to address complex environmental challenges across Russia: in the reclamation of dumps, municipal solid waste landfills and sludge beds.
However, as both sides noted during the meeting, the key problem holding back the development of a circular economy was recognised as the systemic insufficiency of infrastructure for separate waste collection and deep waste sorting.
«The problem is not the lack of recycling technologies, but a „shortage of feedstock“ in the form of high-quality recyclables. Today, the efforts of residents who sort their waste are often undermined during transportation, when everything collected is mixed in a single refuse truck. Different types of plastic require different recycling technologies, and without an established sorting system at the input stage, it is impossible to speak of a quality product at the output stage. As a result, valuable raw materials are either sent to landfill or transported to other regions, while local businesses do not receive sufficient resources», – commented a representative of the «TechPolymer» Group of Companies.
The deputies’ visit to the production site of the «TechPolymer» Group of Companies confirmed the business community’s readiness to be an active participant in environmental and municipal solid waste management reforms. The company, whose products directly contribute to eliminating accumulated environmental damage, is ready to share its experience and participate in developing effective solutions for the Krasnoyarsk Territory.
«Creating a circular economy also involves reclaiming existing dumps and constructing modern waste management facilities where high-quality sorting takes place», – concluded Committee Chair Vitaly Drozdov.
The «TechPolymer» Group of Companies will submit to the committee its proposals for measures to support the industry, based on many years of practical experience.
