In 2023, the implementation of national projects will continue in Tatarstan. Reclamation works will be carried out at the Samosyrovsky landfill and sludge fields in Kazan.

The reclamation of the sludge fields is a pilot project, unique in Russia, implemented under the national project «Ecology».

«The final disposal technology must focus on the consistent resolution of five key tasks that formed the basis for further design: dewatering, disinfection, neutralisation, processing of the accumulated sludge directly at the site where it is deposited, followed by reclamation of the disturbed area, and neutralisation of harmful odours during the works,» explained Alexander Shadrikov, Head of the Ministry of Ecology of the Republic of Tatarstan.

According to him, reclamation is being carried out using the geotube method, which is one of the most relevant methods today.

The reclamation of the sludge fields using geotube technology is being carried out under the federal project «Volga Rehabilitation».

Workers at the sludge fields are carrying out a range of works:

The works at the sludge fields are scheduled for completion in 2024. After that, Tatarstan will share the knowledge gained with other regions. Consistent work in this area will help improve the quality of life for people across the country.

The reclamation of the Samosyrovsky landfill in Kazan will be completed in 2023. Over the following 20–25 years, 1.5 megawatts of electricity will be generated from the waste. Thus, the landfill will benefit the population. The project is being implemented from 2021 to 2023.

National projects have been implemented in Russia since 2019.
