19 May 2023

The landfill reclamation works at the 9th kilometre of Velizhansky Tract are progressing according to schedule and will be completed in December 2023, the Information Centre of the Government of the Tyumen Region reported.

On 18 May the progress of the works was inspected by Svetlana Radionova, Head of Rosprirodnadzor, and Alexander Moor, Governor of the Tyumen Region.

The technical reclamation works at the landfill include the construction of a six-layer reclamation cover using a peat-sand mixture, crushed stone and sand. Geosynthetic materials are also used to form protective anti-filtration covers: polymer geogrid, geomembrane, and nonwoven textile.

The Department of Subsoil Use and Ecology of the Tyumen Region reported that the next stage will be biological reclamation.

Within the landfill body, the peat-sand mixture will be graded and biomats will be laid, which will enable the restoration of the soil and vegetation layer.

Across the entire land plot and adjacent areas, pre-sowing cultivation will first be carried out, consisting of ploughing and harrowing the soil layer, applying mineral fertilisers, and sowing a reclamation grass mixture.
