"The Government will allocate more than RUB 500 million to the Omsk Region to eliminate two major landfills in the regional capital.
The corresponding decision was supported today by Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin at a Government meeting.
So, all preparatory activities have been completed.
We will eliminate two major landfills in Omsk. They have a negative impact on the city's environment and, incidentally, also contribute to air pollution.
I remind you that, on the President's instructions, by 2024 it is necessary to eliminate a total of 191 landfills within city boundaries, covering a total area of 2.5 thousand hectares; by the end of next year, 111.
Millions of citizens will feel the environmental benefits of this work.
What has been achieved?
More than 40 such sites have been eliminated in over 20 regions of Russia, and we are currently carrying out the elimination of another 50 at various stages!
The clear results of not only landfill remediation, but also their proper and effective subsequent use for the benefit of cities, are already visible.
For example, a landfill in the city of Chelyabinsk after successful remediation became a recreational area and a venue for the city's sporting events."
