Russian President Vladimir Putin held a working meeting with Moscow Region Governor Andrey Vorobyov. During the meeting, the governor reported on the reclamation of municipal solid waste landfills in the region. He said that, as part of the federal programme, work had been completed at seventeen such facilities in the districts.
He noted that 39 landfills had been closed by that time.
«In other words, it is not simply a matter of putting a padlock on them; today, these are environmentally clean areas that can be further developed or, at the very least, no longer cause concern,» the regional head said.
He said that work at two landfills in Volokolamsk and Serpukhov was scheduled for completion by the end of 2024, and added that the region was continuing to develop its waste-processing industry. Vorobyov concluded that the region held a leading position in this area.
