The Parfenovo landfill is one of the largest sites of accumulated environmental damage in the Moscow Region. Over 30 years of operation, the landfill occupied an area of more than 7 hectares, and over 1.5 million cubic metres of waste accumulated there. At the same time, the landfill’s maximum capacity was found to have been exceeded by 200 thousand tonnes outside the leased land plot, over an area of 1 hectare.
Landfill remediation works began in November 2020.
The sheet-pile enclosure made of Geospun and the reinforced soil wall designed to retain the landfill within the boundaries of the allocated site are now fully completed. The landfill body has been formed and the lower protective screen has been installed.
The impermeable barrier is formed from drainage and waterproofing layers: hydromat is used as the drainage material, while the insulating layers are installed using the bentonite mat Betontekh and geomembrane.
The technical stage of landfill remediation is scheduled for completion in 2022.
