Since September 2023, major repairs have been carried out on the Ulanovka – Medvedchikovo road section from kilometre 0 to kilometre 9 in the Yaya District of the Kemerovo Region. The works were performed במסגרת the national project «Safe, High-Quality Roads», with JSC «Mariinskavtodor» acting as the subcontractor.
The road pavement required major repairs and was characterised by frost-susceptible soils in the road embankment foundation. Frost-susceptible soils are prone to deformation and uneven settlement, which shortens maintenance intervals and increases accident risks. A technical solution was required to reinforce the pavement structure.
The project provided for reinforcing the road embankment foundation using a roll material – Geogrid РД-60/М. The reinforced road geogrid has tensile strength in the longitudinal and transverse directions of at least 60/60 kN/m. This geosynthetic material redistributes loads across the road pavement and prevents the intermixing of granular layers.
The road construction team partially replaced the frost-susceptible soil with a natural sand-and-gravel mixture reinforced with Geogrid РД-60/М. This reduced the volume of earthworks, ensured uniform settlement of the embankment and increased its stability.
Reinforcement with Geogrid РД-60/М produced the following positive results:
- Reduced construction costs and project duration.
- Uniform settlement of different parts of the embankment.
- Increased overall stability of the road embankment.
Thus, the use of modern technologies and materials enables major repairs to be carried out successfully and improves road pavement quality, contributing to safer and more comfortable vehicle travel.
